Suspension colors on a 68 RS/SS BIG BLOCK
« on: January 20, 2016, 03:58:59 AM »
Hey guys I'm restoring the front end now and have reinstalled the sub frame on new bushins,it's painted chassis black along with upper and lower control arms, next is the coils and the steering components. I'm not sure what colors they should be. The Camaro book says colors varied.flat gray coils and center link, clear on the steering box??.any help would be a great help.is there a color chart somewhere out there,I've done a bunch of shearches and no luck.thanks in advance

From the factory, I don't think the coil springs were painted...  but to protect them from corrosion during restoration either your (light gray 'steel color') or 'satin clear' would be good choices?

how durable is SharkSkin?  Treated bumper bracket bolts this weekend, then later hung the rear bumper. Little goes a long way with the product, happy with the finish, did not appear to rub off after installation.

coils-steering box-tie rods-"natural"  like Gary said, need something for corrosion. I use WD40 on everything--short term. Read good things on SharkSkin product. Believe CHP uses gun oil.

Might need to be more specific by part your checking. Center link looked nothing like gray and was a type of forging looking like a old gun barrel. I gun blued mine! Steering box was bare so some type of protection would be great with the hardware restored. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=199824&highlight=restore+steering+box
