Wrong tires, exhaust, shifter, alternator, PS pump, steering wheel shroud and spare tire. Missing AIR system, A-arm splash shields, spark plug shields and woodgrain trim on the dash. Rear stripes incorrect, added some style trim and left the rockers body color. Body tag photo shows painted over rust; amateur restoration at best. Many detail errors.

What is the justification for the $80k asking price? Shaky Yenko paperwork?

I was typing at the same time, many of the items listed from William. So for me this car is way over priced. Just not a clean crisp resto. SO many issues for that price. And just because it happened to be purchased at Yenko Chevrolet really means nothing. It's not a 427. That's just kind of a neat little fact that it happens to be from their. Adds zero value. And the addition of the exterior trim that does not belong. That's holes in the paint. Looks to me like the VIN area has been all smoothed out. It's rough to the sides and nice and smooth at the VIN. Interior has all those seat flaws. As in the seat covers have a bunch of wrinkles in them in various places. They were not installed taunt. I hate that visual. And the exhaust exits like a '68. This is a 55K car in my book. I would like to see the 2nd and 3rd page of Jerry's Report.. Danny

Just an added .02 also... That kind of money and it has speaker grills and no speakers? At least put the correct package tray in... Details are definitely lacking. Nice driver with pretty shiny paint, but nowhere near $80k. Not everyone's resto is going to be nut and bolt correct, but don't try asking the moon for it either.

It is hand-written dealer forms. Probably just me but looks awfully fresh. If it did come from Warren I'm sure they are real. Lots of blank pads were probably carried out of there however.

My idea of bullet-proof docs would be the dealer order form, the confirmation from Central Office, Shippers Copy, the invoice from Cheyy.

I'm with Danny. So it came from Yenko. So what?

Well I guess it's just a matter of opinions. I am for sure no expert. Just have to go by past personal experience. I have looked at hundreds of these cause it is my dream car. If it was titled in Don Yenko's name and was known to be one of his favorite cars, and there was old paper work showing that, and pictures of him pointing at the VIN... yada yada yada THEN you might have SOMETHING. I know he owned it KINDA cause he owned the dealership, but just for ordering purposes. But just because they sat around the table and some guy ordered a car that month for THAT dealership, TO ME, means nothing. Yenko didn't do any mods on this car. It's just a fun fact, plain and simple nothing more.. And there is WAY to many issues for that asking price. Your looking at thousands of dollars to get this car up to the standard that I would pay. Then the investment is 100K!! There are SO many out there right now for WAY less than that price ... that are SPECTACULAR cars. Needing virtually nothing. Not trying to sound like a Richard Head... [ Think about it, you'll get it.. Nick name for Richard is? } But this is just too easy. The guy that buys this car at that price has more money than knowledge... Danny

So you're saying ANY Chevrolet that happened to be sold by Yenko Chev, Nickey Chev, Gibb Chev, Berger Chev, Dale Chev, Scuncio Chev is worth more than a comparable car just because of the connection? Maybe people from other sites are easily impressed.

As I stated the paperwork is the usual handwritten dealer stuff. Where's the stuff that matters? Like the original dealer order form, the order confirmation from Chevy, the Shippers' Copy of the window sticker, the PDI with pop imprint. Any one or all of those factory-generated docs should have been in the same folder.

The NCRS letter shows the car was shipped to Yenko Chevrolet. Here's an extra $5.

man if the 427 cars were scrutinized like this Z maybe there'd be 50% less documented 427 cars.

Hmm,
So the wagons, vans, trucks, 4 doors, ect.  from these dealers must be worth
some big bucks too! (well, maybe the original license plate frames anyway)
Everything here is scrutized like that, and rightfully so. Thats why I'm here.

At least they are being honest.
The VIN stamp on the block is way to readable due to the smoothing of the rough casting.

I don't want to run the car down but it has several parts missing or wrong for a Z28,, the the passenger side exh. manifold looks like its from an automatic trans. car and the driver side is wrong too, no smog holes in the exhaust manifolds and for this much money I would want the smog equip., wrong alt. top bracket, the spark plug shields on the pass. side look wrong, and the driver side shields are missing, no rubber flaps on the inner fenders  , pcv  valve is wrong, hood hinges, hood latch, and master cyl. are painted wrong color,  and it looks like it sits too tall in the rear.
it looks like a nice solid car, just needs to be corrected a little.

My issue with the car is the docs tell how it was delivered. Driving lights, Koni's, 15x8 Vette wheels, solid swaybar bushings, headers, cam, etc.
That makes it an interesting car modified by Yenko. Right now it's a yawn.

Interesting dates - ordered March 4, built April 21, sold May 22.

Couldn't agree more Steve - my 69 block VIN is barley readable due to the roughness of the casting. It is completely unlikely that the block was ground smooth at the factory like it is on this one.

Exactly. The DZ block I have is only readable for a few digits. Which is good in my case cause its not matching but date correct.
Any block as smooth and readable as the one in question must be suspect.

I also have to agree, my L48 from May is also very rough with a section of casting flash ground off, but not nearly as clean as this Z

Dealer Order Form looks like it's dated March 4 68.
Wouldn't be the first time someone wrote the date wrong, but in the 3rd month of the year?

That's not the dealer order form; that's an in-house pricing sheet they gave the customer. The dealer order form was a green serialized Chevrolet generated form that had no pricing on it. The form number was 6 alpha-numeric characters that were used for tracking. The number was also on the confirmation form and the window sticker.

Interesting William. So what is the 'Order Form for Chevrolet Dealers' that is filled in by hand, more like an order confirmation for the buyer to take away?

Yes, that's the take-away for the customer. I'm not sure if the customer received a copy of the actual dealer order. They were faxed or mailed to Central Office. If a dealer sent a number of Camaro orders and they were immediately confirmed they usually had sequential confirmation/body numbers. That had nothing to do with production scheduling; cars were not built in body number order.

If it had been just sold at Yenko with no mods I wouldn't really see any extra value but according to the paperwork it looks like Yenko added some cool stuff. If it had gotten restored with those Yenko modifications I would pay more for it than stock. Too bad it didn't. Just kind of a mess under the hood.

Just for your information my 1969 LM1 numbers matching has the vin location ground down before they stamped the numbers. Very easy to read and the engine had never been out of the car until I took it out to rebuild it.

I think the 2 discrepancies you listed will likely help the sale rather than hurt.  Nearly every 1st gen known to man now runs a cowl hood, lol

Sadly it's become so accepted that I've run into people that think a flat hood isn't correct so there is no way it could be a Z  ::)

All kidding aside, even with those minor things fixed it's still too much money.  If I were looking I'd be more concerned with some of the other issues though with a  price tag like that.
