speedometer cable location
« on: November 08, 2015, 09:29:30 PM »
I'm confused about location of speedometer cable thru firewall. Info from c r g says cable should be on left side of column for MC1 trans. My car is #'s matching L48 and MC1. The cable is on the right side of column. Just wondering?

That sounds like a super cool ride. You will have to get us some pics. I have never had a chance to examine in person a 3spd. man. SS.I will give my 2cents. I believe, if not specified in CRG, that the default location is where all trans. speedos come out in the pic. that is, to the Left of the strg. column where the plug is circled (on RT. in pic) Only the Muncie 4spd comes out on the RT side (pictured) all the rest Lft.

My car was originally an L48/MC1 and the speedo cable is in the location shown by Bentley's picture.

Looked up MC1 in AIM. AIM MC1 A1 under item part #4 6477216 Speedo Cable.  The notation states, "installs same as RPO M20 with RPO L34,L35,L48,L78,& LM1". A new one on me, but according to that, the cable does indeed come out the hole you show. I told you this would be a fascinating study, probably not too many around, my guess.

A.I.M. is an acronym for Assembly Instruction Manual. It is a bible to restoring a car, like the Camaro, and each manual covers only one specific year.
It is a collection of GM documents listing all the components of an assembly of a particular model car with an exploded view diagram accompanying along with a list of part numbers associated to that assembly. Google it. There is a link on this site and a PDF. Use the search feature here also.
from this site:"The AIM covers Chevrolet-installed parts, including drawings and part numbers (but not Fisher Body installed parts)."

Thanks again for all the help. One more question about my car. Trim tag date 02d. Rear axle code first week in march. Can this be original rear end? It is 3:31 12 bolt.

Best to take pictures of all data and let the community decide what is legit. Rear date is possible, IMO.

Welcome to CRG

Google "photo resizer" and there's several free downloads.  They allow you to import a picture and resize to the size you need.  Try to get clearer pics also.  Specially when it's comes to numbers and letters.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the correction. Fixed.

It's probably the original axle - what the VIN?
