69 Cowl Induction Air Cleaner Question update update!
« on: December 02, 2006, 03:32:34 AM »
Wonder if you can help me.  My 69 SS 350 with cowl induction hood.... the rubber seal on top of the air cleaner seems to be overlapping the hood insulation by a couple of inches... particularly on the left side.... looks to be pressing on the insulation instead of the hood itself.  Was there more than one seal?  Or is my hood insulator just a poor reproduction?

2nd question... my air cleaner cover is black... were they offered as chrome on the 350 or was that strictly for the big block car?

thanks

It is likely the insulation was not cut correctly. There was only one flange & seal for all applications.

Original equipment ducted hood air cleaners did not have chrome lids. For some time in the '80s GM service replacement units were supplied with chrome lids.

Thanks for the response.... time to trim it.  As for the black lid... thanks for that info also.

The current molded hood insulation repro that Rick's carries is very nice... it runs about $80 or 90 and the shipping is via truck freight and runs about $40.

my molded insulation is 22 inches across the opening. make sure your seal is not upside down.

the seals are the same. the extension ring is different for the z-28, 350 small block, and big block. i have one for a 350 quadrajet car if you need it.

Learn something everyday....
x77 can you measure out the dimensions for me please.  Then I can check to see what I have...I would be interested if yours is different from mine.

thanks

The pacer has the cowl induction seal on upside down... very common mistake as there are no instructions with the seal.
