Wondering if it may be one of the change over blocks when the '67 Novas were converting away from the L79 327's in preparation for the 350 conversions. One of those '67's is around here somewhere, a series of them built in April - June '67, P-O-P coded as an L79, with a apparently original 255 HP block (or 275 block - help me, DW) - I wish I could remember the casting number. I'll look for the article describing this -

The O-385138 pegs it as an experimental casting, and the 98206-F on the pad pegs it as having been built in the Motor Room at Chevrolet Engineering, authorized by the sixth supplement ("F") to Engineering Build Work Order #98206. If you had the BWO (Build Work Order) files from 1967, you'd have the details, but we don't.  :-\

Not sure how I missed this thread..  You could have called..   :P  You going to Oktoberfest this weekend?  Also Snow White is having a car show benefit on Saturday..  Probably taking the 67 to one or both.

Im hoping that 67 will end up in my garage one of these days but Im not holding my breath..  Ill look tonight when I get home..  I have pics of the pop, car, engine & trans.  Pad was stamped ZA (POP is ZI) but when rebuilt in the 70's it had dome pistons, cast intake, q-jet.  Still has the correct dated flywheel which is the same as a 67 Z.

As John has already stated its an experimental block.  Ive seen intakes with this casting or stamp but this is a first for me on a block.  Pretty cool piece.

Couple questions..  What type of balancer does this engine have?   Also the number on the crankshaft?  Pics of the pistons would be great too..  This is starting to peak my interest..   :)

I'll be at Oktoberfest Sunday for sure. Did not hear about Snow White - all day or evening ? Great weekend for both - see you at one or the other.

Hope the '7 finds it's way to your garage - I'd be jealous !

Steve

Just curious what year Nova?  Also can you take a pic of the oil filter mounting?  Thanks.

Interesting block..  I have no idea what the block would have been used for as far as the engineering numbers..  I would treat it like an average shortblock on pricing since you cant directly tie it to an ECN (Engineering Change Notice) from GM.
