Another question: if you had just the speedo and fuel gauge set up, and wanted a clock, did you have your choice of a clock mounted on the tunnel or the dash, or was the only way to get the clock in the dash was to order U17?
If you had neither U16 or U17 in 69 you could order U35 for the clock in the center pod. (67 required the gauges and console, 68 you could get the Tic Toc Tach option.)
Chevrolet also had a generic tunnel mounted clock sold by dealers that could be installed in any Chevy.

I have one of these console clocks, I bought it a long time ago probably on ebay. Because I have a dealer accessory tach on the dash above my steering wheel, obviously I wouldn't have a tach in my dash cluster and no gauges on my console. I really wanted a clock, but I wasn't going to cut up my dash cluster for the center clock.

I had done some research and came to a conclusion that these console clocks were not available for the 69 model year. However recently I saw an auction for a clock with Nov 19th 1968 date code. So now I don't know. I'm guessing if you wanted a clock, this is how a dealer would add it but I didn't find it in the 1969 dealer accessory booklet.

Anyway, I thought the pics would add reference information to this thread if anyone was interested. I will probably add it into my console. Funny how people seem to be interested in the odd accessory stuff during a show, everyone loves talking about the keyhole alarm and chevy dash tach.

Thats because there are so many cookie cutter cars out there. Everyone has seen a 69 (or 67 68 )camaro, at a car show. Everyone adds the console and gauges and the cowl hood, stripes and spoilers.

IMO, It is the cars with the rare color combo, rare options, or originality that really stand out these days

In the 68 AIM U35 sheet A1/A2 show this console clock. The 69 AIM shows U35 as the dash center pod location, no notes for the console clock. So this was not available in 69 as a factory option, at least not according to the 69 AIM.

However there is an interesting anomaly in the 69 Dealer Chevy Dealer sales manual, in the camaro options and prices section. It states:
Stereo Tape System: Includes four speakers. Not available when electric clock is ordered. Console required when Air Conditioning is ordered.....U57
The only reason I can see to not allow the tape and clock options together would be the space required for an undermount tape player and the console clock. I think this is a carryover "mistake" from the 1968 options, since in 69 the clock is center pod and the 8 track was console mounted when D55 or undermount without D55. Thoughts?

Hi Lemarin - you need to read the entire statement in the context of the option U57, stereo tape system.

Stereo Tape System: Includes four speakers. Not available when electric clock is ordered. Console required when Air Conditioning is ordered.....U57

This is saying that you must have the console for mounting the 8track player, because with airconditioning you would not be able to mount the 8track player in the alternate position under the dash. The airconditioning and the 8track underdash would clash in that position under the dash.

So if you ordered the 8track and had also ordered air conditioning, you need to have a console to mount the 8track player.

Hope that helps, that's how I interpret this.

Thanks - Andy
