68 Big Block Coupe Spare Tire Floor Bracket Location
« on: September 02, 2015, 08:34:01 PM »
Can anyone help with the location of the spare tire bracket which spotwelds to the trunk floor on a '68 Big Block (L35) Coupe?
Prior - to - purchase floor replacement, and whoever installed the floor neglected to transfer this bracket; I am of the understanding/rumors that the location of this bracket differs from coupe/convertible as well as Big and Small block. Is this true?
Can anyone post the correct measurements? Thank you.

I believe the '67 bracket location is the same as a '68 (someone may have to confirm this).
Here is a previous thread about the location on a coupe. I have a '67 L35 coupe to show any locations you may need.

Let me know if I can be of more help.

I can't think of any reason it would be different from small block V8 to big block...???

Look at page 291 in the assembly. That is were my big block convertible is mounted. My small block car is more in the middle of the car. Maybe Darrell can chime in on the Green machine. Hope this helps.

Isn't the question totally different between 'coupe' and convertible', vs a coupe with small block or big block?

ie.  Is a coupe body different in the trunk area for a big block vs small block engine?   Aren't the tires/wheels the same?

Gary, in my mind the answer to your first question is "yes".

As far as I know, there is no difference in spare tire trunk floor bracket location for a 68 big block coupe versus a 68 small block coupe.

I don't really know if there is a difference on convertibles.

I have *heard* that convertible spare tires were placed differently in the trunk (I assume due to top motors, fold down space, etc)... but again, no idea why the placement in a convertible would be different between big block and small block engines...

To my knowledge the small blocks are no different from big blocks.  Verts are in a different location vs coupes due to the convertible top well.  The page rare396bronze is referring to is the location of a vert which makes sense since his is a vert.  Not sure why they put it under the L35 option..??..

I pulled this image from the net..  This is what I remember verts spare tire mounting to be correct.

This is the green 68's trunk shot.

Those looks correct Darrell. That's the difference I see between my '67's coupe and convertible.

There is no difference in small block big/block location. The only difference in location is coupe/convertible. You will not find the location in the assembly manual because Fisher Body installed that part.

Take a look at UPC 10 (p 132 in my book). It clearly shows the location differences and assembly instructions between coupe and conv. Interestingly, there is a note on UPC A2 (p 182): CONV. SEE RPO L35.

UPC L35 shows an extra "retainer" and a different pn for the bolt and instruction sheet. Not sure what that is all about, but as far as location, there is no difference between BB and SB.

I measured the small block car measured.  It measured  11 inch across - just like Darrell's car. But the convertible is like on page 132.
