Welded on Wire/Hose Loom Next to Trim Tag
« on: August 18, 2015, 04:24:44 AM »
When the firewall is painted black, the welded on loom which is rubber dip coated, just to the left of the trim tag , did it get painted or is it masked off?

I'll check my '67 survivor and let you know later today unless someone chimes in sooner.

On my 69 it was spot welded on then painted with the firewall. The spot weld failed when I was removing the wires and there was no paint behind it.

Mike

It would be very unlike the factory to install a part and then have to 'mask' it before painting whatever it was mounted to... so I would tend to believe if it was installed before the firewall was painted, then it was painted also during the blackout...  Attached is a photo of my firewall after I removed a few parts, so you can see these parts very well...

Actually Bill.. :) ..  I seldom (although sometimes I do) have to go out and look/photograph as it's very easy for me to dig thru my archive of photos and grab one that works.. :)   I have a 100 GB ext disk which gets all my photos and when I have time, I 'rename' them so they are searchable...!  :)

PS.  and when I do have to go take a photo to help someone, it's a short trip right downstairs to my basement.. :)..  and we are straying from Bentley's original question.   Bentley:  If I can do/photograph anything on my car that might help answer your question more *better*.. :) .. let me know.  (maybe check that part to see if there's black paint over the black rubber??)

Well, it's been 'half apart' for quite some time.. since I began disassembling/cleaning 3 or 4 yrs ago.  Currently the front clip is not yet re-installed, and I will re-ring/bearing my 302 before it's installed again.  and.. not all the parts from my dash have been reinstalled... and ALAS.. since I have a *few more* cars that need work, And I have a garage under construction that I'm trying to finish..  it will be awhile yet... :)   Maybe you and I can plan to take our Z's to a Nationals one of these days?? :)

PS.  Did you notice in that photo, the *faint* upside down 'T' down below the trim tag?   that was the reason I took that particular photo... I suspect the stamper (perhaps a 'new' guy).. put that one down poorly, then someone showed him how to do it.   Interestingly, I owned this car for 30 yrs before I even *noticed* those PTB stamps!  :)

It seems that everyone on here is very helpful and the pool of knowledge is neverending and usually very accurate and backed by hours of research. I am dumbfounded by the insight and help offered so freely from you guys. Finding this site when I bought my cars has been an unbelievable stroke of luck for me. I'm old and slow but one day I WILL finish these cars and make it to some of the future events. Thanks to all for your invaluable information.

(By the way Gary, it's neat that your last four numbers in the vin are your model year!)
