Just from looking at the L78; I dont see that it needs to come out but I havent had to remove the grille from a 68 before.  I know on my 67 I didnt have to remove it.  Although it would make it easier to access everything.  I would probably remove it simply due to it not being that big of a deal to remove and install.

Thanks. I will need to work with the lower part of the header panel to get it in as the previous owner was not a gentle person when it came to removing things.

I know one thing - it's tight. You have to compress the grille to get it to clear the header panel and pop in place - scares the devil out of me to do it. I've had mine out for repair for a while - not really looking forward to putting it back (about ready to replace it with an NOS grille I have anyway).

You can do it without moving anything, just be careful and take your time.

Steve
