IS my car a real Z???
« on: January 23, 2007, 03:57:00 AM »
Hi. i bought a 69 camaro a few weeks ago & i'm trying to figure out what it is.
trim tag reads
ST 69 12437   NOR174319 BDY
TR 715               51 51 PNT
11C
VIN is 124379N547461
I know the car is dusk blue with blue int. it has all the Z/28 emblems & white stripes.  It has been sitting since 1978 looks like no paint work & has no motor tranny & the guy i bought it from put a 67 10 bolt in it.The cowl area is completely painted white none of the wiper linkage is painted white. The strips on the back go to the trunk lip & it never had a rear spoiler on it nor does it have a cowl hood.  It has multi leaf springs & front disk brakes & was always a four speed car also has 15x7 ralley wheels .. if some one has any thing else please HELP
Thanks again!!!!!

No X codes, To early. Check for the single 3/8 fuel line, 7000rpm tach, 507 and 508 frame mounts, speedometer cable should come from the trans tunnell area at like an angle toward the passenger side. (Muncie) Does it have the original radiator? Should have a 3 core with the passenger side tanks having the C B code on them. Manual steering pitman arm should say 3953227 for the fast ratio steering. If the power disc brakes are original the booster should say 9024 on the little flag tag and the master cylinder should say 309.  My car is 11D. #547891 so we are REAL close. Buy Jerry MacNeishs book. A lot of good info.  Sam

it has a single 3/8 fuel line with the GM hose on the fuel pump end also has the correct speedo cable & a 309 master cylinder. i will look at the pitman arm tonight it's a non tach dash and there is no radiator.  From what i can tell it has an odd looking exhaust hanger & i think it's for chambered exhaust. Thanks for the help

Just a couple of notes.  A tach is not a good indicator for a Z, as early builds did not require the installation of a tach.

On the radiator issue, the CB will at least indicate a small block radiator, so look to see if has the UH radiator tag.

Pull the back seat and look for the yellow partial X code on the passenger rear seat bulkhead. This and the other items should give you a much better idea on what you have.

Good luck on your findings!

Also check for the tail pipe adapter plate on the rear left side frame rail.

If you bought the car out of Atlanta recently... yes it is a pre X code Z... I actually won the bid on the car the first time he auctioned it on ebay and then he did not like the price it brought with the no reserve auction... $2850...and he refused to sell it to me...  You only paid $2500 for it though ;D... I was looking at the car and it has a good bit of the original paint on it. It also has a set of matched 15" ralley wheels date coded for the car. It is a muncie car with the original white overspray down the firewall... Supposedly the car has 42k miles.
It has the fast ratio manual box in it... the car was out of Asheville NC and the 302 supposedly went into a street rod.

Yes i bought the car from atlanta i live in ohio. it does have the 3953227 pitman arm & the 3945508 & 3945507 motor mounts. The right rear frame rail has the dual exhaust pad factory welded on & still has all of the factory exhaust hangers with the rubber barely hanging there.  I'm trying to figure out if it was a chambered exhaust car. Thanks guys for all your help

Hey firstgenaddict,

Do the above pics remind you of a similar 68 you and I are familiar with. Paul

Tinkerr... yep about the same... I wish I would have followed up on this Z28... I should have bought it. The Ralley Wheels alone are worth a good bit.

11C is about the cut off for chambered pipes being installed on all z28's, it may have had them, I do not know how to tell definatively.

Dusk Blue with blue interior would be a good color combo...
The front sheetmetal is there and the grille is an original grey molded siliver painted piece.
If I am not mistaken the car is missing the console and the drivers door panel.
