Console Screw P/N 9428499
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:21:52 PM »

Does anyone know what size item #3, Screw Assembly (p/n 9428499) is? Looks like AMK doesn't list it. Is it hex head, phillips head, does it have a captured washer, finish?

Thanks,

Bob

For the hinge? I assume that 68 & 69 were the same and that mine are original to my 69...they are black finished Philips head screws.

No. Not for the hinge. It is the screw in the center under the lid that attaches the top half to the bottom.

Thanks,

I'll have to look at my AIM since the photo you posted can't be blown up to actually see the location without distortion. My eyes are not as good as they used to be.

OK.  Thanks. My car is a '68 but I think you're right, '69 is mostly likely the same as '68.

Can not be seen w/ console in the car. I looked to see if for some reason you can flip open the lid and see them.  Bet they are a hex head w/ flange and some small sixe like #10 or #8 self taping to grip the plastic base. Wish I could be of more help.

According to the hardware section of my 1968 Camaro parts catalog...

     9428499  Pan Cr Recess(phillips) w/washer.............BA(tapered point)   No. 8-18 x 1 1/2"     Chrome

Haven't been able to look at it on my console yet.

Jerry,

Chrome? Hmmmm....that's interesting! Just to be clear (since the AIM is a bit unclear), I'm referring to the screw assembly used at hole location shown in the picture below.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob.....kinda confusing.  I found the 9428499 mentioned in another parts catalog but it stated that it was used in a 1968 console with tape player?  Couldn't find any other use of that screw.
The length of that screw would seem to be too long for use in the photo shown....I would think that the screw #2 shown on the Aim would be the one that should be used in that hole.  My car is not located near me at the present so I can't go look at the console and see what is in mine.  Maybe later tomorrow I will be able to check for you.

Jerry,

OK. Thanks. I also saw that it was listed for use with a tape player which doesn't make any sense.

Having now taken a second look at the AIM (D55 A2) the revision record box references RPO U57 which is the tape player option. It looks like the dimensions and hole sizes for the tape player were added to the drawing. So it would appear that the screw assembly 9428499 is only used with the U57 option.

So I'm guessing that the screw I need to use in that hole would be the same as the other screws used to secure the top half to the bottom half (item 2, p/n 9421137, 8-18 x 1/2 Phillips head) which makes much more sense.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob.....Yup, I believe your right about the #2 screw fitting in that hole.  I did find a photo of a console and it appears to be same screw as the others that are used to attach the top to the bottom.
