China Crap
« on: June 18, 2015, 02:49:08 PM »
Anyone know where I can get Wheel Cylinders for a 67 Drum brake car that are Made in the USA?
The smart guy that owned this car prior replaced the cylinders 2 years ago with junk and tossed The Delco Moraine parts.
Already leaking.
Ordered AC Delco parts off ebay and guess what? The pictures in the listing are USA what I got were China.

AC-Delco hasn't manufactured ANYTHING in over 30 years - they became strictly a marketing organization decades ago, contracting with outside manufacturers to make GM parts and put them in AC-Delco boxes. Like everything else, many of those parts are made overseas.

I got mine from my local parts store 16 years ago and are still A-OK.  Randy

Steve,
I am going to my friends tow yard next week to look for a windshield, shocks, YH wheel, etc. for CRG members. If those '67 firebirds at the yard have the wheel cylinders, will they work for '69 ? LMK and I will check them out and see which ones if any of the four are in non rusted out condition. That last sentence doesn't seem grammatically correct... Oh well... Danny

Yes they will fit on a 69. The front cylinders are left and right placement. Rears are both the same. Even if they are bad (probably so) they may be orig. Delco Moraine parts and can be sleeved.
I found some Made in USA Wagners for my 67.

If you persist, you will find USA made parts on ebay. I just bought a complete set of wheel cylinders; Wagner fronts and Napa rears, all made in the USA. But you can't go by the generic pictures most sellers use. In my case, the sellers posted pictures of the actual parts, I wouldn't have bought them otherwise. My policy is to buy any USA made part that I think I will need in the future, while I still can. I refuse to install parts made off-shore on my car.

I just went through this for my axle & pinion seals. I tracked down Timken bearings & seals because I thought they were made in the USA, but I was wrong. Even those are made in Indonesia now.

Bearings, in particular, can be marked "Made in USA" and still contain foreign manufactured components. I have a bearing plant in my area (name withheld, but it's a big one) that has been importing Chinese races for years - rejection rate at one time was over 75% from incoming inspection alone. Material harness, dimensional tolerances, you name it, all bad. Purely disgusting -

Another big bearing plant near me just announced they are moving operations to Mexico. So goes the rest of our manufacturing base. Best be combing swap meets and junkyards for vintage "good" parts if you're not already -

Steve
