68 radio am am/fm date code?
« on: June 12, 2015, 02:34:07 PM »
I have a question mark in the title as I'm not certain that any of the numbers on the radio label have anything to do with a date code.
For 68 am/fm 7303241 I have seen:
41FPK - 6070
41FPK - 7166
41FPK - 01484

Also, they are listed on the label as the serial number, which is actually the application/type code [41fpk] and some numerals.
I think the last 4 - 5 numbers are no more than an incrementing serial number.
Thoughts appreciated.

Ah, from nastyz, if it still has the original power transistor, then there looks to be a date code on it in the form of yyww e.g. 6745 = 45th week of 1967

I've also noticed that the 68 am/fm 7303241 41FPK radio doesn't follow the usual code convention.
The first character [usually the year] is a 4 and in this case it means.....I have no idea??
The second character is 1 for Chevrolet.
The next 3 characters [FPK] could be interpreted 2 different ways. The F could be for 'pony car' [F body], but then there's no PK in the decode list, unless you accept P for pushbutton am/fm and K for fader.
Or perhaps there was no 'body' character and it was FP for am/fm pushbutton and K for fader [added on with U80 option]

About radio part #'s: The bodyline is the *releasing* activity. So if the B-body group released it first and it fit every vehicle, then every part that went in the other cars would show B-body as the vehicle line.
In other words, it's which group released the part originally, not a list of applications.

Cheers Kurt, that would explain why you see mostly/exclusively 01BFM1/M2 for 70 Camaro which was a late comer amongst the 70 model Chevy's, though the schematic does quote 01FFM1 as well, but I'm yet to see one in the flesh.
So I guess that FPK for 68 is FP = fm pushbutton and K = fader, even though the fader was optional [part of U80] at least for 68 Camaro.
