1969 RS Headlight Bucket Shim
« on: April 24, 2015, 05:14:47 PM »
I'm trying to locate information on assembly line correct shim(s) used on 1969 Rally Sport headlight buckets. There is a related CRG topic dealing with a 1968 RS however the thread does not specify if 1969 RS shims are the same or if there is more than one size.  Are they zinc or manganese phosphated?

# 3903452, dark phosphate and they are the same for all 3 years. Never seen an original picture of the shim in question so I do not know if the ones being sold on eBay and others have the original shape and thickness.
If anyone has pictures of original shims I am sure all on this forum would appreciate seeing them.

That looks just like the correct A-Arm shims for aligning the front end.
The originals do not have a hole in them.

Lloyd,
I have never seen a 69 RS with shims on the headlight buckets. Were they really used?

Where and why would 'shims' be used for the RS headlights?   The headlights have the same type of 'adjustment' as all headlights..... no shims necessary!

Yes.
Headlight cover to center grill adjustment. Headlights are adjusted after covers are adjusted horizontally, vertically and parallel to the grill.
X77-69z28,
Could we see a picture of one of them?

So are we referencing a shim for 'body adjustment (ie. HL covers) rather than the headlight buckets?

Yes, but few know that there is an adjustment. The 67 AIM Z22 B3.5, 68 AIM Z22 A15 and 69 AIM Z22 B3 show the adjustment.

2 observations: I never recall the screw that goes through the bucket pictured being that long...interesting. And, those shims appear to be flat on top and not rounded like HOT302 shows and other examples, perhaps a LOS only shim and /or screw?

Excellent, thanks for posting Rick. Would be helpful if you would post a photo of the shim beside a ruler/tape to indicate the length.
