Crager SS wheel & tire size question
« on: April 01, 2015, 01:13:09 AM »
I want to go with 15 crager ss on my 67 with front disc, probably x 6 front and 7 or 8 in rear
Also plan to go with old school goodyear RWL bias ply
Any ideas on wheel offset and tire series F vs G, 60 vs 70 series?

Not exactly what you were looking for I know but maybe it will help.  After much deliberation on my '69, I went with Firestone Indy 500 white letter radials - 215/65/15 on a 7" Cragar for the front with 235/60/15 on a 8" Cragar on the rear. Looks perfect to my eyes and the tire heights are very close.  These sizes may convert to old school sizes.

4 piston calipers I assume??

Here are a set of 14 x 6 reverse and 14 x 10 on my (father's) 68 with 4 piston calipers.  He ground the calipers to get them to clear but you could use a 5/16" spacer to make them work in the front. F70 up front and M50 on the rear.

Some wheels and tires on my 67.  Single piston calipers and they clear just fine.  These are mid 70's vintage Cragars..  I can get you the backspacing later this week.

That was why I converted to single pistons years ago: 1. caliper availability/price. 2. clearance issues for aftermarket wheels. I am not a proponent of spacers. On the street I ran the rally's, at the strip Cragers as front runners.

I would also browse Team Camaro ,tons of threads on this. Keep in mind 69's allow for a little more tire then 67-68's

Putting the 4-pistons back on ,so this is a big topic of interest to me.  E-70's on the rally's ,  also Torque Thrusts with ?? tire.

I'm running 15" Cragar SS with 7" on the front & 8" on rear on my 68"  Tires are 215/65's.  Car is stock height.  4" backspacing on fronts, not sure about rears...it's either 4 or 4 1/2.  Back has plenty of clearance.  Fronts would rub while cornering if I tried to lower front end by over 1/2 in.  Front brakes are SSBC single caliper discs.  Back are factory drums.

Jek9016, My white 67 is on the home page this month. Last year I put cragars on my car 15x4 with 165R 15 on front and 15x8 reverse with 225/60R/15 on the rear. I have 4 caliper disc in front and had to use a 1/2 inch spacer for clearance. No issues with the tire size on the front but the 225's out back just don't look good to me. They don't fill the wheel well enough. I will change them to a 245/60r/15 soon. To each is his own about radial vs bias. I prefer radials because the car handles so much better. Also a good set of gas shocks really help the handling of our cars.
Stingr69 your blue Z really looks good with the Cragars.

Richard,
Thanks for the compliment.

I also have a set of (4) 245/60/15's on the stock 15x7 rally wheels and they fill out the wheel wells just fine.  Looks a little more "Chunky" if you know what I mean. Fronts were VERY close to the fender extension so it needed a bit of a massage to fit without rubbing.
