Intake Date Code
« on: December 18, 2014, 03:28:48 PM »
I picked up a 3931067 intake last night. The intake date code is A319. Jan 31, 69. Would that be too early to be "correct" for a 7/28/69 CJF 396?

It's not impossible, but it's certainly not "typical" to have an intake that pre-dates its usage by seven months.

It's actually a few days shy of 6 months....

Six months is still a long time, and not typical in most cases for an intake that had common usage.

Late March intake on an early July engine is maybe a bit long, but within reason. And that intake is not as common.

Others may have a different opinion.

G 1 8 is the block casting date - what matters is the engine assembly date.

Were specific lower volume intakes like the '610 models for Z 2/8 models and some Corvettes ever cast in batches considering their much lower limited and specific usages, and what would be considered acceptable 'close' casting dates for them compared to engine assembly and block casting dates for early 1968 build 302 engines?

I had good news while I went back east at the beginning of the month. My brother showed up at the house with my original intake. It turns out only the carb had gotten stolen back in the eighties, not the intake. So for date confirmation if anyone is reading this, my original intake is E 29 9 or 5/29/69 for my 7/28/69 assembled motor. With a little cleaning up, she'll be good as new so it can sit on the motor in the corner of my garage under a cover lol.

For my '67 L35's the intake date codes are:
 '67 05B NOR :
Block assembly date: T0308MW
Block cast B 22 7
Intake Manifold - B 14 7

 '67 04B LOS
Block assembly date: T0214MZ
Block cast B 6 7
Intake Manifold - B 13 7 (1 day before the engine assembly date)

So, it looks like the 67 NOR car's motor intake that was casted one day later than the LOS's motor sat for a couple of weeks before being installed on the motor on March 8 vs. the LOS's motor intake sitting for one day before being used on the motor assembled Feb 14.
I have often wondered what it looked like at the foundry in regards to storage/placements of made parts to have cast dates of components vary so much.

Hey that intake turned out to be buried treasure. Isn't that exciting???

The original owners son of my car continues to dig up small items, (License plate brackets, original plugs, promos from the dealer)

Keep searching for those items Hawk!
