I have  02E LOS z28 with the correct alternator.I had it rebuilt back probably 15 years ago. I seen this post so I checked the back of mine. It was rebuilt and a 1969 rear half was puy on during the process. I doubt that many years ago it was done to screw me but anyhow it was done that way. I am glad the correct original front section with correct numbers was not misplaced.

My experience with HBC was less than satisfactory. I'll leave it at that

I've been dealing with HBC for quite some time and never had any problems. They will accept returns up to a year after the sale. Anyone can have a slip up and as long as its taken care of all's good.
