Wire stand
« on: July 05, 2014, 03:11:43 PM »
I was looking through the 68 AIM and noticed on page 441 for the Z28 it shows the driver's side wire stand faces the firewall.  Mine is facing forward.  Is this a typo in the AIM or is my repro stand messed up?  Also, does anyone know what size the bolt is that holds the auto choke assembly to the manifold on the 68 Z?  I lost mine in the shuffle and the AIM just says production bolt.  Thanks.

I guess I'll have to assume another AIM error?

Hi Harv.....have you checked out the thread by Danny on the original 68Z that he has bought?   What a good series of photos.....check out Post #46 (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=12453.45.  I think that will show what you are looking for.

As to the screw...you might ask him to check what his looks like.

Harv....this link is for an eBay ad for the screw but it shows a good picture.   Maybe you can find one locally that will look the same.

Looks like the size may be 10-24 X 1/4"

Note where the alternator brackets are attached.

Look at this page on my build thread and it shows mine along with a assembly picture of a 68Z motor coming off dress line (I assume).

Hey Chick....I noticed that location on Danny's pictures and immediately thought of you.....just forgot to tell you about it.

BTW....the link you posted is not the correct one, it should be the two prior pages that are displaying the alternator mounting problems.  Just a thought....did you measure to see if the alternator might be positioned too far forward.  I think that when I had headers on my car, the adapter positioned mine forward.

Just a thought.

Post 800 & 806 on the page I linked both show the bracket don't they along with the alternator mounting questions don't they? I just checked and it did but maybe something else is wacky??????? Jerry, probably correct on the header thing and I do have the brackets located from the front but every time I see a picture I wonder about those brackets. :)

Hey Chick....you are sure right about wacky.   When I click on the link it goes to post #841 at the top.  That was why I was saying I had to go backward to get to the right post number.
