RE: 1969 Z28 (The Real Thing ?)
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:02:59 AM »
I understand that the Norwood plant began using the X33 and X77 codes on Z28'x begining the 3rd week of December in the model year run. On which month did the 1969 model year run  begin and when did it end? The reason I ask is that I want to confirm the athenticiy of a Z28 that I am considering which is coded X33 and has a build date of the 3rd week of Aug.

Thanks

69 production went from late August, 1968 through early November, 1969. Post pictures of the Trim Tag and the VIN and we can give you more help.

Ed,thanks for you response.

The vehicle VIN is 124379N671815

The trim tag details are as follows:

ST69 = 69 Model Year
12437 = coupe
NOR = Norwood (Cincinnati) Ohio
101176 = Sequential Body Number Note: This number was assigned by Fisher Body and is not related to the VIN
711 = Black standard (Interior Trim Code)
79 B = Rallye Green Black vinyl top
08 C = 3rd week of Aug
X33 D80 = Style Trim Group with Special Performance Equipment (Z28) + Air Spoiler Equipment

Any further info would be appreciated.

Thanks...Bill

Bill,

Your Trim Tag assembly date (08C) and VIN (671815) match up, so that's a good thing. However, with the growing number of reproduction (fake) tags available, it would be best if you could post a picture of the Trim Tag. That way we can give you a "go/no-go" on the car. FYI, the MOST faked Trim tag is the X33/D80 which is what you have, so you really have to be carefull.

Ed, thanks for your response. I hope to inspect the car within in the next week and a half, and I will take a pic of the trim tag and post it. Aside from checking drivetrain codes, is there anything else that I should look for?

Thanks...Bill

With that VIN and body number, it was built in August of 1969, not 1968.

Chuck,

You won't see an X code on your car since it was assembled in Los Angeles (Van Nuys). Only Norwood (Ohio) cars got the X codes.

The N173 is a Van Nuys assembly code. Your car was the 173rd car built on the N day in the thiid week of February (that's what the 02C means - Third week of February, 1969).
