Go up to the top of this page, click on those buttons and start reading.
Start here, under question 10 (about history):

Go to question 9 and order first:
Alan L. Colvin's Chevrolet By The Numbers, The Essential Chevrolet Parts Reference, 1965-69, Robert Bentley, Inc., 1994. ISBN 0-876-0956-9

Gather the numbers and anything you cannot figure out, post under Decoding and CRG will help you.  I'm sure you will get more advice from others.  Welcome to the "club"!
