1969 Front Spoiler to Lower Valance Bolts
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:59:16 PM »
The 1969 AIM specifies the spoiler-to-lower valance bolts as #9417075 #10-24 x 3/4" with a captured washer and #10-24 nut with captured washer #3759924. Do these bolts look like originals?

Not too short Eddie? 5/8" vs 3/4" in the AIM?

Have we been giving lengths as overall?
I sold MRO supplies for Bowman fastener company and we always gave measurements from the seat (bottom face) of the bolt.
I would say that is 1/2" long.

Should be shank length, not overall including head.

Yes, of course (momentary lapse) thanks James.

Anyone with a photo of a set of original spoiler bolts/nuts?

Nope. Those bolts in the photos have integral washers (washer heads), and the originals had "captured" washers, which are free-spinning, to avoid tearing up the plastic spoiler when they torque up.

Do-over...

Do these bolts appear to be original and correct? Does the "E" head marking correspond to a known (mid-1969) Chevrolet fastener supplier?

AMK lists their 'G-4320' kit for the '69 Camaro Z28 front spoiler, and says:  CONI SEMS, HXWA SCREWS, NUTS, WA'S    28 pieces,  $8.00

Has anyone purchased this kit who can tell or show us exactly what was included?

Gary, here is a photo of the AMK G-4320 Kit that I located online. The (4) spoiler to lower valance bolts appear to have an integrated rather than captured washer with no head marking. The nuts appear to be the correct design.

Yes, I think I agree Lloyd...  the AMK catalog did not show availability on the correct bolt (with captive washer).  And based on the orientation shown for the hardware in the AIM (bolt in from the bottom thru the spoiler first), the AMK kit has the captive washer on the side which least needs it, and nada on the side needing it (thru the spoiler itself).

After this discussion, I need to check my spoiler hardware which should be in a bag somewhere..  :) ..  I know I bought a new spoiler from GM in the mid 70's after buying the car, but I don't recall buying hardware, so there's no telling what I have....

Noting also that the AMK kit includes the bolts/washers/nuts for the braces as well..  accounting for the 28 included pieces.
I didn't find a photo for the G-4320 kit..... is it because I don't know where to look?  :)

$250 per set is my take. Its an interesting "mixed set", 14 of the 28 pieces required are included and a combination of mostly restored with some used/survivor fasteners.

Thanks Steve, I tried entering the number G 4320 and it stated not available.  After the 3rd time I added the dash - with the number G-4320 and it went through.

Doc.  After looking at Chicks post on the amazing 69 Z28 survivor in the survivor cars section, on pg 8, I'm thinking the first set you show would be correct.  The chrome bolts may be a bit long though.

I used the first set you posted above Danzo on my white 69Z, with a reproduction front spoiler. The kit works fine, but I thought some of the holes on the spoiler were not spot on. I seemed a couple so everything would fit nice.
Looked good for about 4 months, when I hit my first high curb in a parking lot...lol
I got it tweaked back where it is suppose to go, and have grazed a few more things since, (steep drive ways). Good thing the reproduction spoilers are only $20. :)

Sorry meant to say "I reamed a couple of holes, and then it fit nicely".

I am surprised a hardware store would not have the correct washers. Seems like the Fastenal Hardware by me has most everything, or can get it. I understand markings on bolts, but for nuts and washers they have been helpful.

I've been hesitant to install rods with my spoiler I was told by a  guy way back if you found that curb while paring at 7-11 that the rods would bend lower fender - cant confirm this but what have you guys seen? I thought about getting nylon bolts so if impacted they would shear before doing any harm?

I was going slow each time it happened and it was just enough to crack the spoiler on the outer passenger side edge. I run the outer rods only.  No fender damage.
