Replace bearing races supplied with new rotors ???
« on: May 26, 2014, 06:52:13 PM »
I have new brake rotors from Right Stuff Detailing for my '68.......I also have new Timken wheel bearings.

The new rotors came with both outer wheel bearing races pressed in. The new Timken wheel bearings also include the outer races.

My question is.........should the races that came with the rotors be discarded and the new Timken outer races pressed in keeping the entire bearing Timken (and Timken quality).......or would the races that came with the rotors be just fine to use?

Thanks.....Dave

Races are an easy change ,I'd go with the ones that came with the bearings----never know on tolerances these days. Off to put a starter in my truck---told you guys it aint been ending for me this week!

I'd replace them. Even Timken is not proof from foreign sourcing (read as Chinese) - the local Timken plant here has been fighting the lack of quality from their Chinese source plants' production for years -

Bearings are marked for point-of-origin, races usually aren't.

Given that changing the races is not a big deal, I am going to go ahead and do it instead of not doing it and then wondering about it later.

Thanks.........Dave

I agree with Jano...  I'd use the race that came with the bearing...
