My X77 01C Z's cap looks like ko-lek-tor's, no DOT, no J spec. Could not get resolution tonight, will try for pic tomorrow (cap is unrestored, pretty crusty).

My 68 cap also looks like the one ko-lek-tor posted. I bought the master cylinder with a July 68 booster. Martin

As a suggestion, if the cover you have is pitted, instead of getting one with surface pits redone, you can buy an exact repro (shape and stampings) for around $25 from many Corvette parts places. Outside from correct fonts there are no date codes to worry about.
There are two type of repros I have seen where it comes to the 4 vent holes on the sides of the cover under the bail wire. Some have the vent punches facing out and others have it facing inside. I have only seen inside facing vents (like those shown by ko-lek-tor) and those on my 67's.

here a pic of mine, chrome and all. any easy or good way to remove the chrome ? i read brake fluid will take it off ?

Plating shops can strip it off for you, and possibly they can replate it as you like..  I don't think brake fluid will remove chrome..  (but I was wrong once before.. at least.. ) Smiley

Not sure if GM used different covers, but I know for sure that Ko-lek-tors is original.  It has the exact same lettering as my 03B Z garage/barn find was found with (pic below).  It's an original untouched cover like many other of my parts.

Mine looks like Gary and Eldon's. Especially Eldon's because I had mine chrome plated in 1980. I bought the car in April 1971. Car is 1969  01C, X55. Jim

Guys, are we talking about two styles of caps or one.    Tall/narrow or short /fat ?  I thought there were two styles.
