I know this isn't Camaro related but it is hard to find anyone with older bikes to talk to on line. Most around here drive EVO's and such. I have a friend with 3 panheads, all suicide shift and a friend in Phoenix with a WLA military bike. Every time I show up with my shovelhead, I get man I wish I still had my shovel, can't beat that sound. My first bike at 15 was a 62 Triumph 650 TR. Old school chopper, 10 over tubes and bolted/weld on hardtail large diameter back wheel, really tall sissy bar. What a ride. I had a limited edition 79 sportster 1000 in the 90's I think only 2000 of those were made. Been looking for info on it but haven't had any luck. Real wild decals (bright yellow and pink) with an eagle on the tank, I think mine was #1017 of 2000 if I remember correctly. The paint was a black cherry color. Do you know these sportsters? I bought my 81 FXS lowrider,15000 miles all original, frame and engine still married to each other, but changed things out to a wide glide with narrow forks, 5 gal fatbobs, vintage 81 wide glide forward controls, lowered 2" swing arm, retro fitted a CV carb. It's all black with a touch of chrome, kind of like the Night Trains. Now that is a bike I want. Still have all the original painted tin and the carb with original ham can breather. I owned 2 late 60's Arimacchi/HD 350 Sprints as well. Love that little bike. Both modified to look like bobbers. I still have a picture of one somewhere. We used to hill climb with them. Loads of torque. Anyway, not much riding going on for me with knee issues.
There used to be a smallish Camaro community here but those guys were into the late 80's and on Camaro's, mine was the only first gen. Lots of older Chevies but those owners are getting up in years and don't see them around much anymore. ALL the young kids thumb their noses on anything old in my neck of the woods. Like you said, where are all these hobbies going? I have yet to even see something like a pro touring or pro street car here. It's pretty bleak. What it takes to go to the out of state shows would put me in a bind financially so I just stay local, which is fine by me. My problem as I stated before is locating a rebuilder for starters, alternators, carbs and things like that. Anything mechanical is a wash unless you can do it yourself. We have a local PepBoys and a few independent shops but none of those will rebuild anything. Oh just go buy something new is what I always get.
