68 th400 fluid capacity with dry torque converter

Hello, trying to find the correct TH400 fluid capacity with a dry torque converter.  I've seen everything from 10 to 15 qts...  Have not fired the motor up yet, so cannot check the level via the dipstick. I put  15 qts in the tranny, and it has a slow leak coming from the front shaft.  New seals were installed on the trans. So I'm suspecting (hoping) that either it's overfilled, or the fluid has not yet made it into the torque converter, resulting in the fluid being above the shaft (hence the slow oozing of the fluid from the front seal).   Anyone have a definitive answer on the quantity that it should have?  Thanks! The Chassis Service Manual says that an overhauled THM400 and empty converter takes 19 pints of fluid.

Thanks very much!  Looks like I need to drain some fluid! Appreciate your help! Was hoping that would be the case.

Another Ash Gold 68, we are beginning to come out of the wood work--color been on the car it's whole life ?

Yes!!  Uncle bought the car in '69. Always wanted it since riding in it as an 8 year old!  Been in the family ever since.  Almost done with the resto after 20+ years!  Some people just don't move too fast! :) Have the POP and alot of other great docs (registrations since 69, etc..).  SoCal L35 car, so no hint of rust.  Need to finish the bumblebee stripe, fire the motor up,  get the RS headlights working, and sort out any issues that arise.  Will then post some pics and introduce my car to the forum ...  Highly optioned with a few rare ones... Fold down rear seat, power windows, tilt wheel, headrests, remote mirror, am/fm, etc... The forum has been a great source of making sure I'm doing things correctly!

Well, fired up the BB, and checked the Trans fluid level... I did not take into acct that the Trans cooler in the radiator and lines would take some of the "overfilled"  fluid.  The torque converter was obviously not full either.... it sucked to fluid down to where I had to add back in all the fluid i removed!  :)   The good news is that it's full and not leaking!  Progress!! Adjusting the lifters tonight, and it should purr!
