There's nothing like parallel parking  a 69 Z with 60's on the front and no power steering. Didn't have to worry about the girl friend wanting to drive it. A real mans car.

You're absolutely right... :)   but they do 'throttle steer' pretty well...  :)

Hot302 your absolutely right about being hard to steer! That was why I sold a beautiful new 68 Chevelle SS to buy one with PS. Popeye could not steer that thing.lol Then my next car was a HO 69 Z without PS, but with the small block and skinnies on the front it was ok.

I call it "arm strong steering". Power is the way to go.... ;)

I think power steering and A/C have something common. In the 70,s we had neither so did not think about it. I never had either until I got married and her car had both. We drove hers on the honeymoon and left my 67 corvette coupe at home. Hey and talk about no power, try to stop my 66 GTO with manual drum brakes. Takes planning plus a strong right leg.

I am with you on that Kelley, My first big block car, a 66 Chevelle SS-396 when I got it didn't stop at all, it had fairly low miles and I realized the drum brakes in the front were worn down to metal on metal and still had the original shoes. I had the drums turned and put new shoes on it first thing, got it all adjusted and bled the system for good measure, and thought "now its going to stop really good". ...
It barley made a difference, it didn't grind anymore, but trying to get all that front end weight to a complete stop was all leg baby.
It separates the men from the boys doesn't it.....Good times.

My old-school car friend (WW2 vet) would always say when thinking back to the old days...."yep....those were the days when men were men...and the sheep knew it"
