1970 Mid Ohio Trans Am Color Photographs
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:07:35 PM »
Here is a nice collection of 17 color and 2 black and white photographs taken at both the Trans Am races that took place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 7, 1970.  You can tell that a few of the photos were taken in practice sessions prior to the race because of the data acquisition items seen on some of the cars as well as the lack of crowd in the background.  Like the photos I posted from 1967 and 1968, these were also dispersed throughout the over 3,000 photogrpahs in the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA's historical photo gallery.  Unfortunately, there is no information about who took or submitted these photos either.

For those that want to see the other historic photos of other forms of motorsports click here and prepare to spend some quality time with the photos: http://gallery.ovr-scca.org/?Dir=%2FHistorical

Photos:
1) Jim Hall #1 Chaparral Camaro during practice (notice the data acquisition item on the drivers side front wheel)
2) Jim Hall #1 Chaparral Camaro during practice
3) Jim Hall #1 Chaparral Camaro during practice
4) Parnelli Jones #15 Moore Mustang during practice

Wow!  Look at the size of the crowd.  I missed this race because of the overheated engine at Bryar.  If I remember, team-mate Dave Lawler finished 8th in his camaro?

Robert, according to http://www.ultimateracinghistory.com/race.php?raceid=9402 your team-mate Dave Lawler finished 12th, 7 laps down to the winner.  He won $500 for his finish that day.  I know you didn't participate in the race due to your overheated engine but did you attend the race?

I got my races mixed up - Dave was 8th at Bryar.  He did not race in 71 - heard many years ago the car went into storage end of 70 - has not resurfaced.  Dave passed in 91 or 92 after doing some Canadian Players
GM Series racing in those years.  I last saw him in the late 70's at Mosport attending a race.

I bought a few of those from a photographer several years ago and can't remember who it was. They often have their name on the backside of the photo but these did not.

Jon, if you ever find out who the photographer was please post his or her name so they can receive proper credit.  Thanks.
