At one time, prior to using a well rebuilt Quadrajet, I would have agreed 100% with this sentiment..

.. if *performance* is your only criteria, then I would probably still lean that way. But, I have to defend the quadrajet a 'little'.. If properly rebuilt, and set up, a QJ can get very good gas mileage for normal driving and still run very well when opened up. One of the main problems with 'old' QJ's is that the throttle shaft wears in it's bore, allowing leakage, so make sure you get that rebushed and fitted, and there are some other 'standard' fixes that a good QJ guy knows when rebuilding them.
