Dave I ran it at NICB:
VINCheckSM Theft Record

124679N641157 has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Theft Records.

VINCheckSM is updated regularly as additional information is reported.

Further information is available through AutoCheck .

So it might still be out there. Run it at the US Gov title clearing house and see what pops up. You won't get personal owners data but you will be location by county or state if it is registered.

Last I knew, the car was for sale in FL in 2000.

Your car is currently registered in Florida. Has been since 1998.

That site says the title is active but the registration expired 6/30/2000.  Probably means it moved out of the state when it was up for sale back in 2000, or its still in FL sitting on blocks somewhere.

It is currently still registered in Florida. If you look at the column on the left it says, Title Status: "Active" which means current. My wife is a loan officer in the state of Florida and this is a public site they use that lets them check to see if it is current and with or without a lien.
Also, it is possible to find out who the current or past owners are. I just did one a couple of months ago.
