68 Convertible Spare Tire Bracket
« on: November 27, 2013, 06:40:07 PM »
Guys, I have seen the posts on 69s and Coupes, but does anyone any the measurements or pictures of the Spare Tire Bracket for a 68 Vert?

I have a 67 convert, with the full size spare tire (14"), and will measure the location via the hole in the original factory trunk mat, if no one chimes in, as I have provided pics of the mat / hole to other members, and I believe the location is the same for 67 / 68, as long as it's the full size spare, and a convertible. PM me if you need pics or measurements. I replaced the complete trunk pan in my car and currently don't have the "J" hook mount plate installed.

If '67 convertible is the same as '68 then I can provide measurements being the floor is still original. I assume you mean for where the J hook is mounted to the floor?

Yes, it is the bracket for the J-Hook with a full size spare. Any pix or measurements from locating points would be great!

Attached are 2 images of my original hook plate (excuse the dust from the current restoration in progress). One thing that should make it easy for you is the plate mounts centered to the floor rib so that should establish the distance from side measurement. Using a metal ruler hooked at the edge of the trunk drain hole, you can see the exact measurements from that edge (6 1/4" start - 8 1/2" finish) along the front-to-back span. I am assuming your truck has the ribs stamped. If not then let me know and I can get more measurements for you.

Have a good Thanksgiving,
Mike
