1969 B.U. Rear End
« on: November 20, 2013, 02:02:07 AM »
I've been in the market for a late 1969 dated B.U. rear end for awhile now but havn't found one yet, I was wondering if any of the members here had any suggestions as to where to search for one. I have found early dated rear ends but no late dated ones, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see them from time to time on ebay. I also see them on craiglist, but with either you have to almost do a daily search, and with craigslist also different cites. Of course buyer beware with restamps and the like.

Is there a way to do a mass search for the rear end on craigslist?

.. depending on  HOW late a '69 rear you need, you might find that it's a C BU ...  labeled rear  for Aug/Sept or later '69 rears..

Good point Gary, although I think you would be looking at very late August if that.

So there is no magic search "the whole country" feature on craigslist. I will search the biggest metropolis areas around me ( SF LA & San DIego). If I was still in the midwest I would search chicago Cleveland/Cincinnati , Indianapolis. You get the idea. Another way to do it is type in to google " 1969 camaro 12 bolt sale craigslist" Or if you wanted to try to refine it "1969 Camaro 12 bolt BU rear end". Then any craigslist ad will populate with this info. I am sure there are many ways to skin a cat, this is just what has worked for me, (with some persistence).

Check out heart beat city, but I would visually inspect anything I got from them, after reading about prior purchases from different people.

One more thing did you get the protecto-plate or paperwork, that shows your car came with a BU coded rear end? Just curious

Gary my car is an early September built Z28 and I thought that maybe a C.B.U. rear end would be the best fit, but I have never seen one for sale.

Search tempest works very well on Craigslist.

My car is fairly close to yours (build date approx. 17Sept69).  My rear is a   "C  BU0829G1" .      The 'C' is displaced a bit in front of the BU code.. so it's easy to miss, or misinterpret (at least on mine, where the 'C' had caught a rock or something, and was a bit damaged, distorted..    I believe Bryon has full data on the changeover from BU to C BU (etc), and if I remember correctly it is likely that change occurred along with a change in the casting number for the differential, and it likely occurred on, or about on, the normal changeover date to the next model year (end of July?)..

Have you tried All American Classics, they were dismantling 1st gen Camaros a while back. They're up in Vancouver Wa. I talked to Tod who was very helpful and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. 800-955-4999 www.allamericanclassics.com

I just called them, nice guys. They said they don't currently have a 12 bolt. The last one they had was a 3.31 open rear that they sold for 1200. Just to give you an idea on their prices. They said they have about 30 first gen camaros, but that they haven't received one in about 4 years, so it sounds like there pretty picked over. He said just about all of them don't have motors in them. I have to make a run up to washington state in a month to pick up another Ford, I will see if the weather holds on possibly stopping by and snap a pic of their yard for you guys.

I concur, last time I was there the 1 gens were shells only, picked to the bone bare, they did have rally wheels stacked like cord wood.
I went in the summer and the Hornets were aggressive and a hazard. The yard is a cool place to troll and get some serious flash back of iron from the past.
