« on: March 08, 2024, 12:46:57 AM »
i just picked up a 1969 Camaro, firewall plate says was org a hugger orange. with ivory and black interior, and was built the last week of Oct, ran the vin on classic car decoder, cause some things raised flags, and came back as copo 9060 series zl1, not sure if that site is blowing smoke up my you know what but would like to figure it out before start the restore , car was redone sometime in 80's n 90's in the typical pep boys hot rod style. any help would be great. org 4 speed car and front disk brakes and still had original hugger orange under the black paint. an now has 383 stroker m22 trand ad 10 bolt 4.11, car was in maine from 1997 then in new jersey from 2005,
attached is pics of the report , build plate and car now

ran the vin on classic car decoder and came back as copo 9060 series zl1,

Nothing in the VIN or on the trim tag will tell you what engine the car originally had.

I believe if you input any 69 VIN in that decoder, that's the answer.

Are the Camaros getting as bad as the chevelles and mopars? It seems there are WAY more SS malibus out there from 69 up than were ever built. Every other Mopar was a factory drag car or built for NASCAR by Dale Earnhardt’s cousin….lol. Pretty soon you will be able to do a VIN breakdown to prove you are buying the super rare COPO Z10 convertible with 302 cross ram factory air RS delete W/ orange hockey stripes.

I think Camaros have always been bad, at least since the early 1980's.  Wherever there is big money at stake, there will be someone trying to take advantage of buyers.

A couple quickie checks. Does have a BE rear, what is the position of the heater hoses coming out of the firewall?
A few things to check if it did come out of the factory with a big block:
1. heater box location
2. 12 bolt
3. prop valve under seat
4. single fuel line
5. front discs

Good luck.
