My 5E 67 has it. The rear antenna option was available in 1967 and was for AM only. Not sure of 68 or 69 if it was still limited to AM.

I know of 2 68's both originally AM radios, both non spoiler cars & one was rear & the other was front..  So I'm not sure there was a standard for non spoiler AM cars...

All spoiler cars were front fender regardless radio
AM/FM were front fender
AM with no spoiler I've seen both ways...

The Options PDF is always helpful on those kinds of questions.  Also look at D80 about the spoiler issue.
My 12D 68 does have U73.

Or are we all mistaking your question? Do you mean when it happened in the assembly process?

Obviously, when the order specified U73, the plant installed it; Fisher Body installed the front-to-rear antenna cable in the body, and Chevrolet drilled the hole and installed the antenna base on the rear quarter panel.

I can only imagine that they wanted the aerial for am/fm to be front fender mounted, in order to keep the aerial lead as short as possible for least signal loss at fm frequencies.

Yes rear antenna takes preference over spoilers, if you ordered both you got the antenna and no spoiler.

Actually, if you ordered both, the order would have been rejected at the order edit stage at the Zone, and returned to the dealer for correction and re-submission.

Thats interesting... The story I received about the low mile early Z28 I have is that the spoiler was ordered, when it was delivered and wasn't so equipped so the dealer installed it one after delivery. Could have been the dealer didn't tell the customer about the lack of harmony in regards to the order and just added it.

Becomes second nature moving antenna to one side before opening/closing trunk. I was told spoiler was installed at dealer , had assumed it was over the counter. My thoughts have changed per JohnZ's response about priority in assembly.

I bought a SS in 1979. It had the rear antenna and spoiler. I was 16 at the time and didn't even keep any info on the car. I believe it was an early production. The interesting thing is it was the short spoiler. I don't recall it ever hitting the antenna. No idea of when or where the spoiler was installed.
