Kick panel speaker grill question.
« on: September 27, 2013, 12:38:28 AM »
Were the kick panel speaker grills the same for all models in 1969 or did each model have an exclusive. I picked these up but not sure if they are correct for my Camaro.

Not sure about other models but the ones I have that I bought 15-20 years ago look exactly like yours.  These are for 67-8 (kickpanels) heres a few pics.

Darrell... yours don't appear to be as deep as mine and mine have a curved cut out top and bottom. From the flat surface of the grill to the edge that presses against the kick panel is 5/8". Makes what I have look like they might stick out further than what you have. Plus your edge looks to have a consistant measurement all the way around.

I need to take the grilles off to get a better shot.  By the pic now that you mentioned it mine seem to taper to one side.  Meaning shallower to the inside if the panel was installed.  When I get home Ill try to remember to pull it apart.  I need to repaint them anyways.  Good catch btw..

Yeah, I noticed that taper as well. I've been trying to locate more pics of these grills on line but not having any luck except on reproductions. I'm thinking what I have may be for an 69 Impala/Caprice, but was told they could be the same for other GM models as well. IDK.

Yeah, I'm hearing the Camaro grills are thinner. I wonder if chevelles have different grills as well. So far, no for Camaro, yes for Impala/Caprice.

That's a big difference. I'm getting the ones I have are for the Impala so far. I haven't heard anything on if they are good for the Chevelle yet. So, they must not all be the same then. Thanks Darrell. The taper from one side to the other, I wonder if the reproductions are like that. I have thought about trimming them to match the Camaro grills but I have no idea what it would take to match them.
