WOW! Chance to buy a COPO from Original owner
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:44:56 PM »
Just found this interesting...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevy-COPO-Yenko-Camaro-/271280681721?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f2996b2f9  . Claims 9,100 miles. Didn't even clean the dust or cobwebs off! I don't see evidence that it is a YENKO as owner claims, but orig. owner should know, right?   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevy-COPO-Yenko-Camaro-/271280681721?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f2996b2f9

Check the Yenko registry, pretty sure they have them all numbered and accounted per vin. Good place to start.

He changed the title, removed the Yenko part.
Description: Camaro is all Original. For Sale by Original Owner.
That's it. Not available anymore - if it's that original, I bet someone thought that was a good price (125K).

VIN# 124379N693711 is not on the list at Yenko registry.

Well it could still be a COPO, just not a Yenko right? I believe there were a couple of dealers who worked with Gibbs and Yenko to get the COPO cars. Kind of a late VIN though.

I was told that if you were knowledgable enough, knew the C.O.P.O. #, and were friendly with your local dealership that anyone could order a C.O.P.O.

No, not in the db.
Supposedly not as original as described - repainted, CE block....

Yea, I have some pics of the car in a garage that I was sent a couple months ago asking about the value of it... It sounded great in the beginning however as the ACTUAL details emerged it became less and less likely the owners would get realistic about the price.

It's not a recreation, it is just not a survivor, even though it is in great condition for a starting point, and would make an easy resto. Being a auto non numbers matching it has a finished value of less than what they want for it...

ok, so you saying it was an original copo, but now has a ce block in it plus the fact that it is an automatic and you still think it sold for close to 100K?

FYI COPOs were also ordered with automatics.    That has no baring on whether or not this is a legit car but do not want you to think they only came with 4 speeds.

Says the mileage is 9100. If that's true, sounds like a car that was used for drag racing. Probably why the original motor is gone as well. Does have a 4:10 rear?

I know COPO 's came with automatics, my point was that 4 speed muscle cars usually sell for a decent amount more than automatics, so you start adding up things up 1) the CE block, 2) its an automatic 3) no paperwork , and I just wasn't as sure it would pull 100k is all.

AND

Why wouldn't this be considered a recreation??? (if he has nothing to prove it otherwise)

I gotcha..  I didnt know by your post.

I do not see proof one way or the other.  To me its one of those cars you put a ? mark next to until info is presented one way or the other.  Whats been presented so far isnt enough.

I guess my definition of recreation would be no proof showing other wise, which in the case of this car it seems to fit.

So they must be identifying something that is legitimate proof of its originality?

IT is a COPO if they were realistic at all about the price it would have sold and the details would be known.
I know from the person who offered it that 125k was turned down with out hesitation... they think it is worth 250k.

Would have been nice for them to present the documentation or more back round describing its pedigree so more reasonable offers could have been entertained.

Non original motor, needs restoring... 125k seems like a fair offer to me. The seller needs to check out some of the auction results.

1969 Z28, Burgandy, numbers matching, 12,900 miles
1968 RS 327 4 speed
1970 Z28 M22 4:10 bought from original owner
1961 Chrysler 300G convertible
