real tag?
« on: September 06, 2013, 08:22:26 AM »
Saw this car on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Camaro-DZ-302-1969-rs-z-28-show-quality-loaded-free-shipping-warranty-/121171362214?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1c366041a6&item=121171362214&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

The tag looked a little funny to me but I wanted those of you who can spot a fake from a real firewall tag to weigh in please

While it is a nice car, I am voting for a repro trim tag. The car also does not have the wood grain dash or the correct rear qtr interior panels, so I would guess the deluxe interior is not factory either. :) The other stampings need some checking with better pics too

12A build week and an X33 trim code (plus a bunch of other tag issues) equal a repro tag.

I give the seller credit for discolsing it is a restamped motor and his careful use of words like 'correct' vs. original.
The tag looks like it was stamped on the same machine for not only the vehicle specific codes, but the 'blank' tag info as well (ST TR....)
It is a nice looking car though. Is the drive shaft optional?  ;)

FYI my 12A has no X code, the body# is 188744, the vin is 557961.  Something does not add up.

based on uniform production rate, VIN xxxx N552638 would have been produced on the 1st production day of December (Monday, 2 Dec) whereas Kelly King's VIN xxxx557961 would have been produced either the 6th or 7th production day of December (9 or 10th), a week later, so if they were really hustling that first week or December, (to make up for the Thanksgiving day they missed?).. maybe Kelly's car was produced a day or so earlier than would have been expected - to put them into the same production week?

The production rate of 57/Hr x 16 hrs = 912/Day was constant, so the only way to makeup production would be add more days or add more shifts.

I did the calculations based on 21 production days in Dec '68, meaning 863/day..   Perhaps there was only 20 production days (extra day for Christmas?) in which case, Kelly's car would still have been 5 production days later.. ie.   6th day versus 1st day

old thread, but car is back up for sale. I must say, the model posing is the highlight of the ad at least that is what caused my interest. A lot of coin for a fake IMO.
