Pic of My new car from 1979
« on: August 14, 2013, 03:14:46 AM »
I am still trying to get the hang of posting a pic. This is the first time I have ever posted a pic.,and my fello members are seeing for the first time my Camaro as it looked when I brought it home in 1979. Yes, I still have the car and I am restoring it slowly. 12B Nor. X22. I would like Kurt to use it on home page someday. Thanks. P.S. that is my 67 SS Chevelle in background, sold to a buddy back in the day.

That photo is way small due to being resized down to only 12KB - when you post a photo, it can be up to 150KB, which fills the screen nicely.  :-)

I had planned to do my first 69 Z in 1978 same as yours but with white around the nose, back into yellow and orange with blue tips. My 3rd kid was born and went to the stock paint scheme after that. It was a 10-10 car. Wish I could have done it.

That is a great look.  It brings back memories.  I brought mine home about that same time back in '79. I wish I had pix of it from back then.  It was all shackled up with the big and little look as well.  No flames on mine but it did come with some sexy stick-on pin striping -LOL.  Those were the days.

Adding a few more pics as I get the hang of this function. One is engine compartment circa 1981, note curved neck radiator. Other, Wife (she was girlfriend at time of pic) and car in staging lane at Tri-State Drag Strip, Ross, Ohio 1981.

Cool to see a SS Camaro with out the spoilers, I have gotten used to seeing every one of them with them. It seems like anytime one is gone through it is mandatory for the owner to throw them on..

Seeing this post made me finally post to the CRG after a couple of years of lurking.
I just found this print in a pile of old stuff I'm going through.  I took this picture at Randol Mill Park in Arlington, Texas around 1977-78.  Just thought I'd post if it someone was looking for Texas Plate CXN-667.  I remember it being a super clean RS Z/28.  Heck it was only 9 at the time.  At least I remember some things correctly.

Hey Vonroll,
Welcome. Glad you finally posted. By now, you are probably an expert on Camaros after lurking so long. I see you have a beloved 72 paint also. Post some pics. By your post, you must be a 68-69 model yourself! Ah, the summer of Love! grille emblem is on wrong side in your pic, as you probably know. How long have you owned your car? Is it a work in progress or did you get one all together?

Thats the way it came when I bought it for $750. By 1980, I made it right! Those are M50-14's in the rear on Crager 14x10 wheels. In those days, it was about getting the car as far from stock as you can.

Oaklyss,

I'm curious, what year did you buy your car for $750.00?  I purchased my '68 RS Z/28 in 1980 for $1050.00   :)

Yes original with, perhaps, a few day two items like my slapper bars and my 69 dated Sun tach. I want it as correct as possible in everything else. I have many of the original (born with) items, some in good shape, others not so good, but I am putting them on regardless. Some original items to the car include the original shift knob and shifter, radio, antenna, speaker grille behind rear seat, defroster, master cyl/booster,radiator,heater core,springs,rotors/calipers,flywheel and bellhsg. I have an original but pitted remote LH mirror, which is what the car came with originally, all original GM brackets, pulleys, valve covers, air cleaner. I do not know which steering wheel came on car as it had an aftermarket on it when I bought car. I will probably put the standard wheel on. I decided to not embellish (add options) and keep the car as it came originally or as close to. So, no tach, gauges, tilt, fold down, etc... with one exception: the car originally had a chrome front bumper with guards. I have a real nice endura with all the correct brackets and correct jack I will use instead. For years, I swore I would not put a vinyl top back on any of my Camaros (all 3 came with V-top), but old age does something to you and now I want the top on there as well. I have a set of XT rims and caps off my blue car I will use (it is 2 weeks earlier car), need a spare though.

Well, lets see, title says,"pic of my new car from 1979"...1979, this car was new to me, hint-1979! lol. Sorry 1968RSZ28 You left yourself open, but I have to laugh, because I too can see myself doing the same.
Seriously, when I look back in perfect hindsight, I am sure I could have traded up, gotten something nicer, maybe a one owner or something with a racing heritage and documents out the ying. This car is not that nice, at least in those regards. It has more sentimental value than anything. I was 18, just graduated and it was my summer of fun, if you will. Let's back up a year and explain in a condensed version let me tell what happened: The one pic shows a Blue car in the background. It was my first muscle car(not my 1st car). I got that at 17. I worked 2 jobs in the summer, one at a gas station the other, a tire store. I made 2 major purchases, a killer home stereo and a 1967 SS396 Chevelle. The car was pretty ratty, but I loved it and I was hooked on big block torque. one night, someone ran into the back of car. The guy was drunk and took off. Some witnesses ID'd the car and upon being caught, the guy's insurance settled for $600. I was young, dumb and full...well you know. My parents were dead against my cars and offered no help or assistance except to tell me that "all that junk is nothing but a waste of time and going to get me in trouble". So, the old man, God rest his soul, was a total A-hole. He never spent a moment with me, helped me, encouraged me or understood me. With the money I settled for, I set about looking for a 69 Camaro. finally settling on the Blue SS L48 car, I own. After the 30 day plates expired, I set about dismantling the car with a desire to have a real nice car (remembering how ratty the Chevelle was). I sold the Chevelle to a cruising buddy who later was responsible for me meeting my ,now, wife. I soon realized that I did not have a cool car to cruise in at the local Big Boy on weekends. I worked at a department store now, in the automotive. This was no ordinary department store though, the automotive part was a speed shop (what a dream job for a 18 Y.O.) Through a satellite store I learned that another employee had a 69 Camaro for sale (this flamed car) I wanted it, but in no way had any money spending what I made on the blue car. My best friend looked at the car after I told him about it. we went together. He bought the car and after we got back in car, he looked at me and said,"when you get the money, pay me back". Then, he handed me the keys. That is how I got 2 69's. Soon after, my buddy I sold the Chevelle to was fixing a couple of his girlfriend's friends up with blind dates. The guys chickened out. He pulled into the Big Boy(like Am.Graffitti) I asked him about the girls in his back seat. He explained the deal. I hung my head out further to get a good look and exclaimed that the one girl was pretty and I would take her out. She jumped out and got in my car and the rest is history. I married that girl, told her I would marry if I could keep my cars, she agreed and there you have it.
