I think what this photo shows is there was a very wide variance in the quality control of Z28 stripes and the way they were applied.  I would say that most of the remaining Z28 population has been modified or painted since they were built.  Survivors are important but even they vary in the way paint was applied.  I get this question from my client base all the time.

Precisely Jerry, I agree 100%. They were built by people and thus there was the possibility of wide variances from one individuals attention to detail (line worker) to another.
