Door locks won't come up with the key?
« on: May 29, 2006, 11:54:33 PM »
Ever since I purchased my 69, the pasanger door would not open with the key.  Since the driver side would I just ignored it.  Now after 7 years the drivers side is suddenenly not working either.  The pull knob on both still work and the door handles, both inside and outside the car work fine.

Can any one out their suggest a starting point to fix this?  I really would like to lock the car up occassionaly.

Thanks,

Kris

...Not exactly the same discussion, but before you start taking the doors apart take a look at this and the previous one it refers to.

Thanks,

I had read that thread, but it sounds like a different issue.  My exterior button, and interior handle seem to work fine.  The door lock button moves freely up and down.  What does not work is my ablility to unlock the door with the key.  This is new, it used to work fine.

Any other suggestions prior to taking the door panel off?

Thanks,
Kris

maybe try to remove the lck door button and than try again.the original door button fits tight in the door panel hole and maybe rubbing against the ferrule.

if that doesn't work, well take door panel off and you should be able to see what's causing the problem.linkage disconnected maybe.

good luck

I had the  exact same problem and thought I was gonna have to take the doors apart.I sprayed some "LOCK-EASE" brand Graphited Lock Fluid in the key holes and now they work like new.It has a little snorkel like WD-40 that you can attach and I just sprayed a bunch in.Never thought it would work, but sure did.

Any hardware or auto parts store should have "Lock-Ease"; it comes in a dark blue plastic bottle.

I'm more for taking the interior door panel off.  These cars are basically 40 years old, and sometimes they just need a little TLC - which means opening things up and taking a look inside.  I had a similar problem with mine and the locks needed adjusting which could only be done by removing the interior door panel.

You never know what else you may find behing there.  When I pulled mine off there was a TON of greese in the door well.  Looked like a previous, previous owner may have tried to lube it up with the wrong stuff.

Good luck and don't be afraid to open her up!   ;)
