Y55 Battery Warranty Label/Sticker
« on: June 19, 2013, 01:01:02 AM »
Posted this on my build thread but thought it might be beneficial to post here. I purchased an original Y55 battery in the early 80's (was a lot of money even then) but the warranty tag had years 1977 to 1980 listed. I wanted to fix this and started to search for anyone who makes these labels. Luckily I found this guy named Tom who reproduced warranty stickers for R59 and many other batteries but not Y55. I inquired and Tom communicated back that he'd never been asked to do a Y55 but had been wanting to complete at sometime. Well within a few weeks I had my Y55 stickers. This tag will look great on our original Y55 battery and assists with great detail!  If anyone is interested in obtaining one of these tags they are $16 plus $1 shipping. Contact Tom at mc71454@hotmail.com Like us Tom is a car guy and has some COOL machines.
Our original Y55 in the box.

The original Y55 with it's original warranty label from years 1977 to 1980.

The repro warranty label/sticker Tom made for our application with a Jan./68 build.

Thanks for the tip, Chick. I have a boxed NOS battery I bought in the early 80's. I'll see about getting a 67 period sticker.

Approximately 1974 they stopped putting Energizer on the battery. So if your battery only says Delco on the top and not Delco Energizer, an earlier dated sticker before '74 will be incorrect.

Not seeing Energizer on the battery carton, and the dates on your label lead me to believe you have just Delco on your battery.

I think I stated Warren the battery had 1977 to 1980 on the warranty card so your comment is correct but instead of two things being wrong its only one. :)

To show what Warren communicated here is a R59 Repro battery that just yesterday I converted to look like a Y55. Note the repro's have 'Delco Energizer'. Friend painted the fixed (do not come off) cap rings yellow, and I added a Y55 warranty sticker which covers the R59 logo. This is on our 69Z pro touring car so my aim was just to look somewhat correct. Guess the point is with the warranty sticker it gives us a lot of freeway in looking the part. :)

Would assembly line batteries have had that label, or is it just for service replacement batteries?

I checked two original road tests: an early production 69 Z/28 in the Jan '69 Hot Rod and a later Z/28 in the August '69 Car Life. The batteries are visible in both photos and neither has that label.
Learning more and more about less and less...

I was hoping you would check your inventory of pics William. I assume they used the POP for warranty claims. Thanks for asking that question MO. Would be great to see a picture/s of original Y55's.

Production-line batteries didn't have a label - they were dated with a heat-stamp date code in the plastic case, not a warranty label.

No stickers, here's one from my archives, 1968 Z28 from the GM photo archives at the tech center.  Great original photo.

You would use the sticker unless you have a correctly dated assembly line battery.
