Need help/advice on changing exhaust systems on my 69 Z28.

My 69-Z28 has the NC8 option.(Chambered Pipes). They are on the rather loud side like most of them. Thinking to change the
system to the standard duel pipe muffler system. This is the one with the cross muffler that was used on the Z28's when Chevy
pulled the chambered exhaust as the standard system. I do not want to use the later system that also used resonators. Here is
my question: Will I still be able to use the front exhaust pipes that is on the car now. (Pipes from the exhaust manifolds to the rear
exhaust pipes) that connect to the muffler? Also can I still use the tail pipes that are on the car now? Thanks in advace-Larry

No. The chambered exhaust is a totally different animal. Go on Gardner exhausts website. They are the best!

Thanks for the reply. I just talked to Gardner Exhaust and they are very helpful. They tell me though that all
of their exhaust systems are made out of aluminum.  Don't know if anybody makes stainless steel
systems but what is your thoughts on that? My 69 Z28 is a "trailer queen" and not run long enough to burn
all the water out of the system all the time; therefore the muffler will rust out from the inside. Idea's? Thanks-Larry

Just a followup; also talked to Allens Exhaust today. They said they could make a stainless steel chamber
exhaust (two transverse mufflers) for my car. It should be a R and R. Thinking I will go with this to avoid
another early muffler failure. Question: Will be S/S muffler be more or less loud? Or the same? Thanks-Larry

Don't know if this will be much help Larry, but thought I would respond.

I put a Gardner's Chambered system on my 69 Chevelle back in 2010.  Mine isn't exactly a trailer queen as it does get about 200 miles a year put on it.  Have had no issues whatsoever to date.  I know their chambered system is not stainless, but it is hard to beat their correctness and quality (albeit they are expensive).

In my opinion, exhaust systems/mufflers made of stainless steel sound 'tinny', compared to a regular steel or aluminized exhaust.  I believe it is due to the fact that the stainless typically used is lighter gauge (thinner) and thus has higher natural frequency..  As one of my friends once said 'it sounds like a fat man farting into a tin can'..

Just a follow up. I got Allens Exhaust to make me up the two back mufflers (Cross Muffs.) in stainless steel and
told them to try to make them less noisy then normal. He did just that and they fit like a glove and sound real
nice. Should be set for a long time now since they are S/S. Thanks for the comments. Larry

Are you referring to the chambered cross mufflers?   Allens does make the chambered system as well as regular systems for all kinds of collector cars...

69Z28-RS: Yes the Chambered Cross Mufflers-All my other pipes(Exhaust-Front Muffs-Tail) where all fine. My car is a "trailer queen" so
engine is not run long so the cross muffs rusted out from the inside-out. So I have part aluminum and part S/S system which Allens indicated
no problem. Sounds a lot better now. Larry
