Has anyone ever seen the upper and lower arms come from the factory in 100 percent gloss black????What do you guys think is correct???Also are the upper shafts and bushings,washers installed before paint???So that would mean the bushings and shafts,bolts and washers are black also.Thoughts on this??? thanks John

Hi John! I have looked at several survivors over the past few years and many have remnants of black paint on a-arm components. JohnZ communicated to me that a-arm assembly came into the plant painted with the a-arm, dog bone, bushings, and washers/bolts as the assembly. This picture was just taken last Friday at the Camaro Nationals of a survivor which shows paint on the a-arm components.

That is exactly how it looked!?! Yes, seems to be paint/stain or something on the fuel line but nothing on the fuel line bracket/bolt, a-arm nuts, rubber fuel line & correct clamp, engine mounts, etc.  If someone sprayed that fuel line you would think it would have hit other things. Car looked pretty honest to me but maybe other members who were there will comment. Any original pictures of your car when they were documenting?

I did find some black paint under the bushings on my lower control arms, looks to be typical low gloss. I was not able to tell if there was paint on the bushing itself or not.

X2 on the paint under the bushing flange, and in the holes, on my '67's control arms. Just wondering if the bushings were installed after paint, and left unpainted. I noted the picture of the survivor car is missing the lock washer that goes under the end bolt (unless that changes after 67), along with what looks like paint on the fuel line.

  Are you saying you do not paint all parts at the control arms when doing a restoration?

As many others have done, I did not paint the dogbones black. Chick's info has me thinking otherwise.

Scott, I'm pretty sure judging at Camaro Nationals now will give a deduct if the dog bones are not black.
A friend had his 69 Z at the Nationals in the Bow Tie Class with the dog bones 'natural'.  They noted that the dog bones should be black, but not the nuts.  No deduction.

Picture of original a-arm washer/bolt that had paint on front & back side. Much of the backside was a combo of bushing debris & black paint. This was on a un-molested car and the engine compartment seemed virgin.
