Looking for pictures of this car
« on: April 14, 2013, 04:53:31 PM »
Looking for pictures of Sam Posey's #76 Challenger with primer on the rear wheel well. I found a picture on photo bucket with no info. on it. It's both the 77 and 76 in the pits. I have searched for others and have come up empty. I know there out there because I have seen other pictures just can find them now that I'm looking for them. Any help with pictures or links would be great thanks.
Justin

As far as I know they entered both Challengers at the same time in the last two races of the 1970 Trans Am season, at Kent, Washington on September 20 and Riverside, California on October 4.  At Kent the #76 was driven by Ronnie Bucknum and at Riverside it was driven by Tony Adamowicz while Sam Posey drove the #77.

I also know that Sam Posey drove the #76 at St. Jovite on August 2, 1970.  See picture here:  http://www.autosportsltd.com/shop/miscellaneous-color-posters/dodge-challenger-sam-posey-st-jovite-trans-am-august-2-1970/

Look through the following threads for pictures of the #76 Challenger:

As few sponsor decals that are on the car in the picture I posted I wonder if it's early in the season? Like they may have been done with the #77 car but not the 76 but had it for backup. Also the primer on the wheel well may be where they flared the fender out and didn't have time to paint. I have seen a driver side picture of the car that is a very close up picture with the primer on that side as well. Thats the picture I would like to get.

Justin, I believe the photo you are asking about was taken at Donnybrooke. If you go to this link
http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=9180.3 and scroll down to the Donnybrooke
coverage, Sam Posey talks about having both cars there at the track and setting them both up
during a private practice session on Friday. That low pit wall and with it being on the driver's side
of the car with the trees like that in the background, I'm positive it's Donnybrooke.

justin, I have two photos of posey, from the drivers side, in the #77 challenger at what I believe to be bryar, two races before what your looking for. what's interesting is the car has no side stripe, not easy to see in the image, but looks like there is repair to both front & rear wheel flares .can't seem to get my head around posting photos, or adding links. if you would like I can e-mail them to you.

Thanks for the help guys. I think you might be on to something Jon. I will see where that takes me. I remember the photo I saw was a color photo of the #76 car going around a turn. It was the driver side of the car with primer on the driver side wheel opening with the R/T stripe missing on the quarter panel. It was a very close up shot just enough to get the whole car in frame.

Here are two shots from Mike that show the Challenger at Bryar. No stripe at all on the side.

The picture I saw must be hard to find. I'm still looking for it. It must be in on of the online photo sites like photobucket. That must be why I can't get it to pull up in google images or bing images.

Thanks for looking. I have a few more things to try tomorrow, after that I don't know where else to look. When I saw it I was trying to find info. on the Challenger and Nova from the 1971 Riverside race.
