I had a wheel with that cap and was researchng it. It had the dull silver like in 68 not the 67 style that looks more like chrome.
I believe they came on some 68 Camaros as I found 2 pictures of Camaros with this wheel center.
Both are new Camaros in 1968 car magazine articles

I posted a picture from one of the 1968 car magazine articles in that old thread

That makes six. What did that research turn up? I also think there is more to these caps, the two I have look to be factory. thanks for the response.

I'll see if Kurt can revive it, but in the meantime, I've asked the guys to rummage through their mid to late 1967 magazines and see if there's anything that shows the 68 Camaro with a white SS on a black background cap.

I've looked and looked, but I can't find ANY GM reference to this horn cap being used on the 68 Camaro. I DID find some information that leads me to believe it "may" have been used on the 68 Nova and/or Chevelle. I also found a picture of that cap in Ray Miller's "CAMARO! Chevy's Classy Chassis" on page 132. While that in itself isn't "proof", it DOES lead me to believe it could have happened. That book was written in 1981, so who knows.

If we can find some kind of proof, I'll of course revise the report.

Well folks, after discussing this with the other members of the CRG, I apparently screwed up and had the 68 standard steering wheel "SS" horn cap shown incorrectly. The part number is correct, but the picture is wrong.

The black letters on the silver background was NEVER used in production. The white letters on the black background is the CORRECT, so I'll have Kurt change the picture. Victor, I sent you an email asking if I can use the picture you sent me in the report, so please let me know asap.

Thanks to all that posted and I humbly apologize to not only you guys, but the other members of the CRG as well. I have no excuse for this and I take full responsibility.

Ed thanks for all your great work on the steering wheel report and the others that you have done

This was one of the pics I found when reseaching my wheel

It is the 1968 SS 396 L78 black Motion Drag car in a 1968 article when they were  converting it for drag racing

They put in the Chevy service parts TA seats and other changes but you can see the original shifter ball on the floor and the wheel

I had posted it in the TA seat thread in the TA section
