So, Sunoco was doing two extra blends as set up in John's pump... that must have been an impressive blend valve set up.

Yup, there were only two underground tanks. One 190 the other 260.

That's what I remember too, my Grandpa's Station only had 2 underground tanks.

Yes sir 2 tanks. There was no blending at the pump though. It was delivered regular and ethyl.  Daddy had a Gulf service station til our local jobber sold to Pure. Pure had their own store locally so daddy had to find a new supplier and he went to Sinclair which later sold to ARCO. When ARCO took over we had to add a new tank for diesel fuel and sold their race fuel in 5 gallon cans. 102 and 110 octane. We had a 100 gallon tank with a hand pump for kerosene too.

One of my neighbors owns a string of BP stations, and they only have two tanks (for gasoline) - regular (87 octane) and premium (93 octane); the mid-grade (89 octane) is created by blending the two in the pump.

I remember some of the hottest cars running no prob on Bi-LO premium. Back then, it was all good.
