Is this a re-stamp?
« on: November 06, 2005, 11:48:49 PM »
I have never been able to find a VIN on my block, and it's been suggested that this has been re-stamped due to font and size. True or not?
Thanks.

I believe he's just directing you to your post on camaros.net where you asked the same thing with the same image and received a correct and proper answer.

Dave,

Most of the guys (and girls) that frequent this site, also frequent the other First Generation Camaro sites like Team Camaro and The Supercar Registry. We also frequent other model sites like Team Nova and Team Chevelle because a lot of the questions that come up on those sites, pertain to Camaro's as well. It's amazing how much in common early Camaro's, Nova's, Chevelle's and even Corvette's have in common!

Chances are if you post a question on one, you'll really not need to post it on another. Unless of course, you don't get an answer.

What other kind of information are you looking for?

Ed

Hi, It appears to be a restamp. Why on earth would they waste time stamping those numbers. Hard to figure that one out. Ive seen retards stamp 302 in that area and call it a DZ 302 block. I have also seen perfectly good date blocks decked and restamped with the numbers not in perfect line for sale on Ebay and idiots buying them. If people are going to restamp they should at least do it right. Once the block is decked and then stamped wrong it is then basically garbage, I don't think you can deck a block twice to remove numbers and still have it usable

Thanks. Sorry, I didn't know you were all on Team Camaro and since I wasn't aware as to how obvious that this was a restamp, I was hoping to get more answers.

Thanks again.

Just reading this and now i am real curious as to how you can tell if it truly is a "re-stamp".
Please explain how to visually determine a re-stamp block.
thanks.

Takes a lot of experience, observations of MANY original block stamps, and the ability to compare a given stamp to other date/suffix stamps done on the same day; not something you can learn on a forum.

All the engine suffix codes I have seen (seen many on various Chevys over the years) have the digits closer together, not as widely spaced as these are, almost appear double spaced.
