69 coupe
« on: January 11, 2013, 11:31:09 PM »
Hello all;
I looked at a 69 coupe today and just have a couple of questions.  The trim tag is as follows;

ST69   12437    NOR192754   BDY
TR711                     59 B     PNT
11D

this car has RS rear emblem and front grill/headlight set up.
The way I read the tag is it is a standard coupe in Forest green with maybe a black vynil top
It has a 6cyl and three speed with drum brakes and no stripes or vynil roof.
Is this probably a car someone partly restored years ago and made into a sort of
RS clone?  IT is for sale, but out of my price range.  I am just trying to learn how to decode these for
future reference.  Thanks for your comments.

I know in the pic there is not a RS front set up, the owner took it off to put on a Z28 he is restoring.

I'm going to say it was painted sometime in the past and they took the vinyl top off and let it go. I've done this to more cars than I care to remember back in the day.  Is there any other RS trim left or has it been robbed? What about the fender emblems?

I don't know that much about early camaro's yet, but the RS emblem on the back is all that is there.  The inside is all took apart too so can't tell what is missing if there was RS emblems in the interior.  the only trim on the fenders is the 250 at the front of the fender for the 6cyl.  The tail lights are missing too and I'm not sure about back up lights since I forgot to take a pic of the rear.  I'm thinking like you said, it has been repainted and vynil top left off and any trim a vynil top may have had.  So really it is just a standard coupe with a 6 and three in the floor.  body looks to be in good shape, owner says no rust in floors or trunk, so it probably would be a good car to fix up but nothing special about it, like Rs,SS,Z28 etc...

If the fender emblems had been there I was going to ask about the backup lights but ......   There wouldn't be anything inside that would trigger an RS. All the RS was a trim package.

Read THIS and get a better feel of the RS package.

If the owner is converting a non RS to RS he did not get enough of the parts... The front fenders and inner fenders are different for RS and non RS first gen's. there will also be a hole (for the vacuum lines) to the upper left corner of the fuse box square hole (if looking from the front of the car)

Just to be clear, the tag just says it's a coupe. It may or may not be a RS.

Do you have the VIN?

How about the rear tailights and back up lights?  RS was different than standard coupe.  Backup lights are in the rear valance below the bumper

That car, at least from the two pictures supplied, isn't worth more than 7k in my opinion. Maybe a little more depending on how the interior looks and if it runs.

I can't afford it and am not trying to sell it for the owner, just trying to learn what I can for when i do try to buy one.  The owner took the tail lights and I cant remember if it has back up lights in the rear valance.  He did say it runs because he was pulling it in the shop every so often  The interior was missing most of the dash but the rest of it probably needs redone.  I havent really started shopping for one yet so I don't know what a good price is.  If anyone else is interested in it I will let you know where it is.  Just pm me.  Thanks for all ya'lls replies.  This looks like a great site. ;D
