Camaro Z28 Cowl Tag... Real?
« on: November 22, 2012, 07:58:58 AM »
This tag looks like it has that famous issue several times. Ya know what I mean. Tryed to get it to look better, but I think you can tell. Looks like a repop to me. Such a late build. Shouldn't it be a D80? Or does it have to be? What say you?.. Danny

Danny I'm not an expert of course but yes I agree it's a repop and yes it should have D80

Could it not still have been ordered with a rear antenae, therefore the rear spoiler would have been deleted but I do not know if the front spoiler would mean it still would have been a d80 designation? Just thinking outloud, thanks Darrell

That's 11D November 1968, long before D80. Even X33 is a stretch.

Still a repro tag though.

11C was the start of the transition at Norwood from the '68 style tag to the larger style. For a short period either could have been used.

Woops, I forgot there wasn't a D80 for 5 or 6 months or more, or so. But I thought it was no good. Too bad, really nice car. Here is the VIN and info....  Oh yeah, Happy Turkey Day eh!! ....Danny

He says " The stripes are applied correctly." To bad the wrong color.

So are there no garnet red Z's with white stripes, except those with white vinyl top? I've seen pic's of others?

That you have seen others is a growing concern to us old-timers who knew what '69s were like. Today one can routinely see houndstooth seats in standard interior cars, cars with console gauges but no clock, the famous CAUTION-FAN decal, ducted hoods on everything, unpainted grille surrounds, '67-'68 N34 wheels.

Last week an acquaintance sent a link to a '68 Z/28 for sale with a ducted hood. The dealer swears it is OE.

Used to be I'd never comment on a '69 unless asked. Lately people ask, get po'd and don't believe you anyway. But to answer your question, no white stripes on a Garnet Red car unless it had a Parchment vinyl roof.

Thank William, that's what I thought. I'm old enough myself, and remember that all the red 69's had black stripes. Until I ran into mine, which of course does have the parchment top. It's the only red/white 69 Z I know of, but there is a 68 with the same combo in Jerry's book. I just wanted confirmation I guess.

Many years ago I regularly saw a Garnet Red/Parchment Camaro SS-RS on our trips to Pomona. It was a 396 and it totally rocked. Somewhere I have a photo of it. There was another here in town but I haven't seen it in decades.

Don't recall seeing a Z/28 like yours. I'm sure it is very rare.

There was a burgandy Z in town with white stripes, and no vinyl top....  back in the mid 70's..  I'm fairly certain that one was original....  ?
