Console bracket & U-joint
« on: November 08, 2012, 03:50:20 AM »
Trying to determine what I should do with the console bracket studs and nut, meaning what finish should they be? It would be easy to assume the two threaded pcs. were natural but not sure. Need help :)

I have one original U-joint or believe it to be that was at the trans yoke. The rear yoke had been changed. I'm trying to find a replacement either in a good used one that could be restored, a NOS one, or a replacement that is similar to the original in configuration. I have not found any current U-joints that resemble the originals but was hoping someone might be able to assist. Need for our restoration.
Suggestions????

My 67 bracket was natural and was still pretty clean of oxidation. I used some steel wool to clean and sprayed it with a flat clear.
 Can't help with the yoke.

Thanks Mike! The stud nuts, don't take that wrong now :), did they seem to be natural, a clear zinc, or phosphate nut?natural?

Hi Chick,

I just looked at the botton of the nut flange that was against the floor and it clearly shows it is dark phosphate. Also, the two 'U' nuts which have their original finish look like dark phosphate. Mine have flange nuts so maybe that was a '67 thing. The threaded shafts are natural. I say phosphate because it is stated here in CRG that black oxide was not the method of choice back then.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Chick, my 68 was natural with a little primer overspray.
