From CRG: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#ExteriorColors
1969: The default stripe color for Burgundy was red. However, the "Camaro Striping Color Application Chart" dated 4/1/69 documents the Burgundy models that received white stripes: Z/28 or non-Z/28 with either Parchment vinyl top or white convertible top.

So I think yes it is possible it was factory paint  :)

Isn't that the original owner with the car at the 2008 Chicago show?

Yes, that is the original owner of the car in Chicago. I think he sold the car since then. Had a nice conversation with him about his car. Nice guy.

That's not what that's saying. It says red stripe for Burgundy cars. Except Z28 and cars with white tops, which got white stripes.
It's the only burgundy / red striped Z I've ever seen or heard about. Other cars like it have not panned out.

There was a burgandy Z28 in my town in the 70's with RED interior; it had white stripes, but the red stripes might have gone OK with it..   (I thought there was a color mismatch between the burgandy paint and red interior....ie. didn't seem to me to 'go togethre', but it was original).

PS.   Back in that time frame, a buyer *could* special order a 'non-recommended color combo', but it had to be a 'SOLD car'.. before build.

Yeah sorry about that I didn't see the z-28 on the grill as my old eyes keep being drawn to the lime green sticker on the drivers headlight.

It's a good concept, but the shades of burgundy/red don't work.
Actually, all it took to build a non-recommended color combo was a color override confirmation by the dealer. They were responsible for selling it in the end....
Some combos were not unusual, but not on the list - I think RG with a green interior was one of them.

Yes, the Red stripes on this Z28 are definitely factory original painted, I have color pics of the car taken the next day after purchase, the original buyer saw the car just after it was unloaded from the delivery truck at his small town dealer,,,, as he had a Z28 on order there and being  18  and very excited to be getting a new Z28, he stopped in every day to see if his car came in,, this car had just been unloaded and  he liked the colors of Burgundy & Red  so he bought this Z the next day,, I removed the cowl grille panel  to clean the entire area , the nice original  factory red stripe paint is still there, the trim tag is coded for Burgundy  paint, the car just had a birthday, it turned 44,  what a great Z28.

Yes, that is the car. No more VIN's in auction listings to confirm, but story is the same.

If this one is lot F168, that's Friday the 10th, 18 cars after the Bullitt Mustang (Lot F150). I for one will be sure to catch it -

I was watching the auction today and noticed this car is in the glass looking building where the high dollar exotics are.  If it is one of one it might bring a pretty good price.

I was over at Mecum Kissimmee the other day and got a chance to look at this car. I didn't realize that the Burgundy offered in 69 was a metallic color. It showed well, although the paint was beginning to bubble in the seam where the quarter panel meets the rear deck filler panel, below the rear glass. Not sure what was going on there, or how easy it would be to repair. it will be interesting to see what it sells for.

Not my cup of tea, but you could say it is one of kind. That crooked front fender emblem would have been a deal killer for me. How does a car get restored with that poor of a job on the emblem? How would the check get signed, with that crappy placement?
